SAFETY FIRST: Sacrifices made in the name of security in the early 21st century - Asha Ganpat turns a mirror toward the state of privacy today. During the four week project, Ganpat presents a live streaming feed, 24/7, of the activity in the gallery. On view is Ganpat's interpretation of Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon, into which the dichotomies of seen/unseen, hidden/exposed, watcher/watchee, and empowered/disenfranchised reveal the complications in the struggles of agency and power. Viewers are invited to sign up for movement alerts and may tune in for scheduled programming of special guests. The audience is also invited to visit and cross the threshold, stepping in front of the camera.

SAFETY FIRST goes online with the opening reception on Saturday, July 7, 2018.
